Silicone potholders and gloves. What do they actually do? Well they are heat resistant. Yep really. So you can ditch the cloth potholders and mitts. Silicone is much easier to use and wash. And there is no heating up of the glove if it gets wet, unlike with cloth items. I think my grandma still has an ancient cloth mitt that is burned and scorched in no less than 99 spots. Yet she still keeps it around. Which reminds me.. she also has a completely mangled potato masher she has kept as well. She says it adds character hahaha. In the 80's she left it on the oven and it melted. It still makes for a traditional story during the holidays. But unlike that handle, these gloves are not going to easily melt.
I got this combo heat resistant gloves and potholders because we do a lot of smoking/grilling year round. I have potholders like this one before and really liked them so them as a bonus gift in this set was a big plus.
I actually first tested them using a cast iron pan. I made fried chicken and not that I needed to move the pan, but what better way to test out the gloves. Cast iron hold a lot of heat. Plus there was hot oil on the handle. Needless to say no burned hands and it was a quick wash in the sink to get the oil off. I keep them hanging on the wall on a hook. Use, wash, hang to dry, and they are set for next time. Easy peasy. I actually keep the squares hung on a hook also for the same reason. And they are out of the way but ready to use.
We have a wood table and have not had any issues with hot/steam marks in the wood either. These are best for quick hands on/off jobs. We used them to carry a hot meat plate from outside to inside into the kitchen and they were just starting to get warm.
I was provided this silicone heat resistant set at a free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. I have no relationship with the seller.
I will have to get some of these for my house. I hate those stupid oven mitts, they are extremely bulky and I always manage to hit the top of the oven when I am getting something out. (leading to those burns and scorches that your grandmother has)
ReplyDeleteI have had these in my amazon cart for some time. I need to get them. Awesome post :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful news! I have been eyeing some silicone pot holders for a long time but never got them because my grandma's experience with the "Ove Glove" of infomercial fame was such a flop.
ReplyDeleteOh awesome! Have also heard these can be used as a mat for washing makeup brushes too so multi-purpose item which is always a bonus
